Writetober Day 2 (Suit)

Suit

Oct 2

“Getting cold feet?”  Tim’s words entered the room before he did.

“Ha, no.  This has been a long time coming.”  Nathan smiled at his best friend.  “How do I look bud?”  Nathan straightened his body as Tim looked him over.

“You mean besides like an uncomfortable guy in a suit?”

“Why are you my best man again?”

“Cause I’m the only friend ya got.”  Tim brushed imaginary specs of dust off Nathan’s shoulders.

“So funny.”  Nathan inspected the grey and lavender outfit he wore in the mirror.

“Your feet cold yet?”  A third man entered the particularly decorated room that Nathan and Tim occupied.

“Why do you guys immediately go to that?”  Nathan jokingly glared at Tim and Jake.

“I mean, do you want the obvious answer?”  Jake draped his blazer over an oversized leather chair.

“Nevermind.”  Nathan presented himself to the new arrival.  “What do you think?”

“It’s a suit…”  Jake searched Tim for answers.  “I mean, I don’t know what you want me to say.  You look sexy AF?”

Nathan rolled his eyes as he realized his two friends were not the ones to answer his question.  She will love it.  He adjusted the sleeves beneath his blazer.  Hopefully.

The three men laughed and teased each other for some time before Nathan found himself heading to the door.  It was still a bit early, but his nerves had all but gotten to him by that point.

“We heading out?”

Nathan didn’t answer Jake as he focused on what was before him.

The three friends left the room and made their way to the site of the ceremony.  Nathan’s eyes scanned the scenery before him as he made his way to where he was supposed to stand.  The orange and green foliage married perfectly with the wood arbor that arched above laid out petals of roses.

“I love the suit!”

“Thanks dad.”  Nathan hugged his father as the four men arranged themselves around the arbor.

It wasn’t a traditional ceremony by any means, Nathan and his wife had specifically wanted it simple and quiet.  Their love of fall had trickled into their decision of marrying in October shortly after the leaves began to change.

“You look so handsome.”  Nathan’s mother-in-law hugged him, he swore he could feel her approval through her hug.

“Thanks, Mary.”  He peaked over her shoulder to see his wife-to-be’s honor maid of honor give him the signal.  His gut twisted as excited nerves took control of his body.

As if the world had dropped away, Nathan’s eyes locked onto his wife as she turned the corner on that crisp autumn afternoon.  Her white dress delicately caressed her body as she confidently made her way to the other side of him.  His eyes locked with her as he willed an I love you into her mind.

“I love you.”  The words left her mouth as she came to a stop next to him.

“You beat me to it.”  Nathan smiled through tear filled eyes.  “I love you so much more.”

The two brought their hands together as their officiant began to speak.

“You should wear more suits.”  The words left her mouth with a wink in her eye.

Nathan’s face erupted in a wide smile.  “We have to get you more dresses first.”

The two shared the moment between them as the ceremony continued, nothing existed except for one another.
