“Trick or treat!” The small group of kids shouted with joy as a werewolf opened the door.
The mask wearing homeowner shoveled handfuls of candy in each child’s bag. With a loud ‘thank you’, the kids made their way toward the next house.
“I think I saw butterfingers in there!” The small ghost spoke as he carried his pillowcase of candy.
“No way! I’ll trade you some snickers for those!” A mini bride of frankenstein exclaimed as she followed the group.
“Ugh, I have sour drops in here.” Disdain filled the young mummy’s words. “Anyone want those?”
“Ew no!”
“Yeah, no way.”
“Well, what about you?” The mummy turned his head toward the little girl dressed as a witch next to him.
“No thanks. I don’t really like candy.”
“You don’t like candy!?” The boy with the bedsheet over him shouted with confusion. “That’s what halloween is all about!”
“Not necessarily.” The young witch trailed her words as the group came up to another house.
“Trick or treat!” The kids all laughed with joy as the owners of the home complimented their outfits.
The group of eager trick or treaters had made their way through the entire neighborhood before they began their trip home.
“I got more sour candy’s…Are you guys sure no one wants them?” The mummy tried his hardest.
“We can take them from you.” The voice came from behind the group of kids, laughter flanked them.
“Yeah, we will take all the candy from you.” Three tall high schoolers stood around the kids, they cracked their knuckles as they stared menacingly.
“Just give them the bags.” The bride of frankenstein whispered to the group. “My mom has a bunch at home we can eat.”
“It’s not fair.” The ghost relented and handed over his bag.
“From darkness it comes, in search of sour, to devour you bums, within the hour.” The young witch’s words were barely audible as the bully’s snatched her candy sac.
“Thanks losers!” The three boys ran off laughing.
“Dude, I love these sour bombs! The green apple is my favorite.” The lead high school put fist fulls of the candy into his mouth.
“Slow down man, we got all night. These kids are literally giving their bags to us.” It had been some time since the group of bullies had taken the young trick or treaters candy.
“Best day of the year-” The leader stopped mid chew and stared into the trees that surrounded the park they were in. “Did you hear that?” His eyes were glued to the woods as sour spittle dripped from his mouth.
“Stop messing with us. You tried this before.” The two goons laughed at one another.
“I’m serious! There is something standing right there!” He pointed his finger in the direction of a depressive darkness that loomed among the trees.
“From darkness it comes…” The voice was low, deeper than anything could muster.
“Okay, for real, cut it out man.” The smaller of the teenage boys begged to the one that pointed. “It’s not funny.”
“In search of sour…” The voice was from behind them.
The three boys turned around, unable to run as fear pinned them to the earth.
“To devour you bums…” The mass of pure black emerged from the tree line. It’s monstrous shape took form as it heaved its heavy body across the grass. “Within the hour.”
The towns clock struck midnight as the three boys screams filled the air.
